Tasmanian Blackwood A Grade Slab 1888-23-1 RF1S ELE6
Australian Blackwood slab, Kiln Conditioned and Resawn flat. This slab has exceptional grain and colour. The borer holes present are an integral feature of this piece, they are present, form part of its makeup, its charm, they are of its past sitting 20 years in an open dry shed. The holes were formed by the powder post beetle. This beetle attacks the sapwood of hardwoods, it rarely enters the heartwood, holes only present in the sapwood of this slab. The slab is dry and so treated with low odour turps and ripcord, no live borer present nor will they return. Ripcord is a pyrethroid insecticide, it's left behind in the surface of the wood fibre and borer holes as the turps evaporates, in this form and once sealed behind a coat of polyethene or oil it is no more toxic to touch than house hold cleaners. This wonderful bright colourful slab is suitable for furniture, craft, and woodworking projects.
