John Mortimer has been a practicing Farm Forester for Forty Years and is a past president of the New Zealand Farm Forestry Association.

Planting many different species on the family properties led to a greater interest in the use of non-pine (Pinus radiata) woods.

For the last ten years he and his business partner Eric Williams have recovered sawn processed and sawn most of the timber species covered in this booklet – which is based on a series of articles he wrote for NZ Growing Today.
